Community Ambassadors
The IDPH Community Ambassadors Program is a volunteer initiative to engage and empower Illinois residents to actively support public health outreach and prevention efforts statewide.
As the primary community outreach and engagement initiative of the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), this program allows individuals to become proactive contributors, problem-solvers, and advocates in addressing public health challenges. Launched in 2020 as the IL COVID-19 Ambassadors Program, it initially helped combat COVID-19. Community Ambassadors continue this work today by sharing key information on prevention, testing, and other public health topics.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Promoting and sharing crucial public health information with their community networks.
- Raising awareness of local public health trends and needs.
- Providing input in the development of messaging and outreach materials.
Ambassadors play a key role in connecting with public health professionals and local communities, representing IDPH at events, providing feedback, and spreading the word within their networks.
The program is free and open to all Illinois residents aged 16 and older. The program hosts monthly meetings on the last Wednesday of each month (3 to 4 p.m.) featuring experts who share the latest updates on public health issues. Additionally, the program produces a monthly IDPH Community Ambassadors Newsletter that includes key takeaways from meetings, news releases from IDPH, and important community resources.
Join the IDPH Community Ambassadors Program today and become a public health champion in your community!
