The best protection from cavities is good oral hygiene, regular access to professional care, a healthy diet of low sugar food and beverages, the mineral fluoride, dental sealants and remaining tobacco free.

Poor oral health may affect your outcomes with diseases and health conditions such as diabetes, immune disorders, heart disease and having pre-term low birth weight babies. For those who do not have a dental home, the Illinois State Dental Society has compiled a patient focused map of fixed and mobile dental clinics across the state. Location, services provided, eligibility, and contact information are available for most sites. It is comprised primarily of federally qualified health centers (FQHC’s), local health department clinics, charitable clinics, school dental clinics and mobile or portable outreach programs.
